NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION TO HOST WORKSHOP IN DECEMBER

On Monday, December 8, the National Science Foundation (NSF) will host a workshop in Baltimore, MD that will provide insight and instruction on how to compete for and secure NSF funding for science, engineering and education research. During the day, NSF will provide an overview on proposal writing, the merit based review process, and programs that fall under the NSF’s seven scientific and engineering directorates. NSF representatives will also be present during breakout sessions to have discussions with attendees about potential research proposals. President Obama Announces New Actions to Strengthen U.S. Manufacturing

In light of the recently-released President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) report, Accelerating U.S. Advanced Manufacturing, the White House on Monday announced four new executive actions aimed at strengthening advanced manufacturing. The executive actions focus on enabling innovation, securing the talent pipeline and improving the business climate. This will include NSF grants for basic research.

Also included are an appeal to attend to the formation of students' souls, a call for a new developmental paradigm for liberal education, a history of the Wye Faculty Seminars, and a warning about a creeping managerialism within college and university administration.

Research for Teaching and Learning Summit Call for Proposals

Summit is designed to provide college and university faculty the opportunity to discuss and share experiences and innovative teaching techniques. It offers concurrent sessions on cutting-edge issues in pedagogy and higher education in a relaxed, congenial atmosphere. There are also opportunities for participants to network with fellow educators.
